In a shocking twist, Singaporean social media influencer Chin Tung Sheng pleaded guilty to a string of offenses, including housebreaking at a Treasure Island bungalow on Sentosa and theft of valuables amounting to more than US$150,000. The 26-year-old social media influencer, who has more than 334,000 Instagram followers, pleaded guilty to seven of the charges on March 7, 2025, for offenses between April 2020 and December 2023.
The Break-In and Theft
Chin’s illicit activities were discovered when a contractor, who was contracted to do maintenance and repairs at the bungalow, discovered that a number of luxury items were stolen. The bungalow owner was searching for a tenant and had placed the house on rent. Chin, who disguised himself as a potential lessee, visited the house several times between October and November 2023. On such visits, he noticed three humongous trunks, seven Louis Vuitton trunks, and four Louis Vuitton trunks-sized boxes.
In December 2023, Chin Tung Sheng entered the bungalow, either by entering the passcode through the front door or by slipping in through the backdoor which he had kept open during one of his inspections. He carried away two Louis Vuitton trunks each worth over $70,800, among other high-end merchandise. Chin would later sell such products online or to high-end resellers. The value of the stolen products was estimated to be around $200,000.
Other Offences
Chin Tung Sheng criminal acts went beyond burglary and theft. From August 2020 to April 2021, he made over 25 different membership accounts to submit false payment receipts claims fraudulently on behalf of Ion Orchard, a Singapore high-end shopping mall. In the process, he tricked the mall into giving him over $76,900 worth of shopping vouchers. His deceit was discovered when one of the employees at Ion realized that all the receipts provided by Chin were pictures of electronically printed receipts and were from a specific cash register at the Louis Vuitton store at Ion.
It is in July 2022 when Chin made a reservation at Amara Sanctuary Sentosa and falsely led the receptionist of the hotel to understand that he fully paid more than $13,200 for his stay using an imitated representation of a PayNow transaction. Furthermore, it was in 2020 that Chin forged various documents to stage that he possesses Singapore Government relationships and significant finance support from the government.
Court Proceedings
During court hearing, Chin Tung Sheng appeared on video link with his head bowed the entire session. Chin’s crimes and scope of his fraud operations were discussed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Caleb Looi. Chin has been kept in remand since December 2023 and had not paid back the stolen goods as well as the forged vouchers.
