Former footballer and BBC presenter Jermaine Jenas and his wife, Ellie Penfold, have announced their separation after 16 years together. The news comes months after Jenas was dismissed from the BBC following allegations of inappropriate conduct.
Ellie confirmed the split on her Instagram, stating: “After 16 years together and four wonderful children, Jermaine and I have decided to part ways. We will remain friends and continue to co-parent. We kindly ask that you respect our children’s privacy during this challenging time.”
Jermaine Jenas, 42, had been a prominent face on BBC’s sports coverage, including Match of the Day and The One Show, before being let go last year. Reports suggested he was accused of sending unsolicited messages to a female colleague, leading to his removal from BBC programming. In response, Jenas publicly acknowledged sending messages but insisted they were “between two consenting adults” and that he had done “nothing illegal.”
Jenas has since returned to reporting, and will be back on talkSPORT radio in early 2025, despite the criticism. He talked about the problems he was having and said, “The last few months have been very hard for me and my family.” But it’s been a chance to think about things and grow.I’m grateful for the support I’ve received and look forward to moving forward.”
Jenas and Ellie, a model, had been together since 2009 before marrying in 2011. The couple shares three children—Geneva, Olivia, and Jacob—while Jenas has another daughter, Sancha, from a previous relationship.

Although his private life has been in the news, Jenas is set on his career in broadcasting. His comeback to media indicates he is keen to restore his professional reputation following the BBC scandal.
Both Jermaine Jenas and Ellie have asked for privacy as they work through this transition and focus on their family.
